An ACL rupture is an injury that is either a partial or complete tear of the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament). The ACL is a ligament located in the knee that connects the tibia (shin bone) to the femur (thigh bone). An ACL injury often occurs during sport activities that involve sudden stops or changes in directions, jumping, and landing on the floor such as basketball, soccer, football, and tennis. Approximately 85% of ACL tears occur in non-contact deceleration or change in direction type of movement.
